Tips and Tricks – Also known as Frequently Asked Questions.

Q What is a cache and how the heck is that word pronounced anyway?
A LOL! You may hear it said many ways but according to the experts (that would be the dictionary people) it’s pronounced like cash. Yeah baby, all that green stuff you can find in your wallet now that you got hooked on The Card Cache! Oh yeah, the definition-A secure place of storage.

Q How many cards can I put on The Card Cache?
A We recommend 1-50 as the baseline. But this is where you come in. If you want to try more, try more. Eventually you could get so many on there that the cards don’t move as freely. What a shopper you are…impressive! We have seen this scenario before and some of you smarties have (2) of The Card Caches!!!

Q Can I put my driver’s license on The Card Cache?
A No. We don’t suggest it. Punching a hole through your ID could render it invalid and just how would you get in the club this weekend or buy a bottle of wine for that fabulous dinner party you are throwing. Save yourself the headache of standing in line at the DMV and DO NOT punch a hole through your driver’s license. (You may however, slip it into the clear sleeve accessory and attach it to your cache.)

Q Can I put my credit cards on The Card Cache?
A We have to say do so at your own risk and here’s why. Let’s say that you are out shopping and get carried away and aren’t thinking straight because you hit a slam’in sale and just picked up a killer deal on an entire outfit…jewelry included. You leave The Card Cache laying on the counter because you are focused on loading up all of your bags on your arms. Little Johnny 4 year old is next in line with his MaMa. He sees it, scoops it up and begins to play with it. He looses attention for it in 8.3 seconds and drops it to the floor. Shoplifter Sally walks by and picks it up and suddenly has a new way to shop…Okay so the story is far fetched, but it could happen. Let’s be serious. If your credit cards get into the wrong hands, they could be misused and that would cause you BIG hassle. If you decide to dangle them from the cable or put them in the clear accessory sleeve, guard your cache!

Q How do all the cards get holes on them?
Magic! No, not really, a hole punch is all that is required. 1/4 inch hole is the correct size and is considered a standard hole punch. Not all hole punches are created equal. We’ve tested ours (You should see the confetti on our floor…) but don’t know about yours.  Your current punch at home may punch paper great but not be so hot on all your cards.  If you buy a new one, stick to an office supply store and the $3.99 price range.  ***Major tip on the down low here…IF YOU HAVE A 3 HOLE PUNCH – USE IT!  You can simply aim for one hole…voila!

Q Where should I NOT punch the hole?
A This is an easy one, You should not punch a hole through the magnetic strip.

Q Why not?
A Easy again, Because…it will annoy the cashier. He/She will now have to manually punch in the numbers off of your card and this will slow everyone down in life like 20 seconds…and who has time for that?

Q Where should I punch the hole?
A Like piercing your ears, or navel or nose…you should have a plan on where the placement should be. We recommend gathering your cards from all of your hiding places; purse, backpack, diaper bag, car, junk drawer etc. We know, they lurk everywhere but are never to be found when you need them, right?

Look at them to see where the magnetic strip is. Stack them in the order you want them keeping in mind that you will be punching a hole in the upper left corner.

Q Help! I punched a hole through the magnetic strip! What should I do?
A Strip happens…this is not a big deal, really. Your card can still be used but you are are on restriction from swiping your card yourself and now the cashier must enter the numbers on the register. You’ll have to punch a 2nd hole on the card now so that you can put that card on The Card Cache.

Q It really bothers me that there is a 2nd hole in my card. What do I do?
A We get it, nice and tidy and perfect…you can call the issuing company and ask for another one. Or, you can think of the hole as a really cool card piercing…no biggee.

Q I’m trying to put all of my cards the same orientation but every once in awhile, that darn magnetic strip is in the wrong place, what do I do?

A Yoga. Flexibility is key here. Every once in awhile, you may have to rotate a card or flip a card…no big deal. The object here is to get all the cards with a hole in the upper left hand corner.

Q I get that all the holes need to be punched in the upper left hand corner, but do all the holes have to be measured and punched in the same exact place?

A No, you can put your ruler away. Just get them close and all in the left upper corner. Eye balling the placement is fine. If it helps, place a pen dot on each card that shows you where to place the hole.

Q Will I ever have a card that I can’t put on The Card Cache?
A You could. It’s rare, we’ve seen a lot of cards and we did once see one that had 2 magnetic strips??? Even blew us away? Should you be the rarity and find a card like this, you’ll have to use a clear sleeve or give up real estate in your wallet so this special card will have a home.

Q What cards can I put on there then?
A Loyalty cards (many of these already have the hole in them), gift cards, frequent shopper/flyer/punch cards, gym cards, coupon cards, business cards, school i.d. cards, bus passes, lunch cards…the list is quite endless like our love for chocolate.

Q I’m not sure if I should punch a hole in my card. What should I do?
A If you aren’t sure, call the issuer of the card and ask if you may punch a hole in the card.

Q Do I have to take off a card to use it?
A Nope. You can easily swipe it through the credit card processing machine OR hand The Card Cache to the cashier or waiter (yes, the whole thing) OR toss it on the conveyor belt at the grocery store. Then watch as those around you marvel at The Card Cache.

Q Can I open The Card Cache while standing?
A If you like the game 52 card pick-up. Here’s the deal, there’s tension on the cable that holds your cards, if you open it and don’t have it supported…you may be picking your cards up off the floor. We find it works better if you lay The Card Cache on a flat surface when adding/removing cards.

Q I have 3 new gift cards and 1 new frequent shopper card. What do I do?
A WhooHoo! Go shopping! Oh, you mean…with the cards. Easy. Lay The Card Cache on a flat surface, open, thread cards on, close. SHOP!

-If you have alphabetized your cards, you will need to take some of the cards off to get to the right letter for placement of the new card and then put the others back on.

-If you have color coded your cards, you will need to take some of the cards off to get to the right color for placement of the new card and then put the others back on.

-If you have added the Mini 5-tab Divider accessory, you will need to take some of the cards off to get to the right letter section for placement of the new card and then put the others back on.

Q My clear sleeve accessory doesn’t have a hole in it?
A Very observant of you, and you are right, it does not. We have found that it works best if you slide whatever you are gonna put in the sleeve 1st and then do your punch.

If you are sliding in a picture, you will punch through the sleeve and the picture at the same time making the holes on the two in the identical place. Brilliant!

If you are using the sleeve for punch cards, business cards etc., you will want to insert them and push them so they are up against the side of the sleeve and you have room for your hole.

Q I used my gift card and it still has a balance that I want to use. How do I keep track of the balance?
A Say Hello to your little friend…Mini Sharpie. This accessory really keeps you on track. You just checked out at the store and the cashier says, “Your gift card has a balance of $2.30.” Immediately flip over your gift card and write $2.30 on the back of the card.

Q You want me to carry a Sharpie in my purse, are you nuts?
A Here’s the down low on that. Sharpie knows what they’re doing and they have tested their product to make sure it caps well. We have tested it too. If one is in a frantic rush to meet the girls for lunch and doesn’t recap the pen tightly ‘till it clicks and locks, the inside of that gals purse could end up with a really random and cool lookin’ graffiti print. Do cap your pen tightly. Just sayin’…

Q How many charms can I put on The Card Cache?
A We really think that one little charm at a time is the ticket. It’s just enough to make a statement. Changing your charm at your whim is okay with us, as is changing your hair color…

Q Where do I hang my Charm on The Card Cache?
A There are two “o” rings on The Card Cache that are perfect to dangle your charm from.  Oh, the charm will not fit onto the cable of The Card Cache, it must be clipped to one of the “o” rings.

Q I want to give The Card Cache as a gift, can you put activated gift cards on The Card Cache for me?
A Ooooh, we want to be your friend. This is not a service that we currently offer. You can easily unbox The Card Cache and add the gift card to The Card Cache for gift giving. Lucky Friend!

Q What do I do with my gift card when I have used it up?
A Grab the scissors and cut it off of The Card Cache. RECYCLE.

Q I have a few gift cards laying around with small balances that I never seem to get around to using. What should I do with them?
A Take a peek at the Give Back page on our website, put them in the mail and bask in how good you feel to have helped another. Then tell a friend or family member what you did!

Q Your photos on your website show all kinds of cards on The Card Cache, does mine come with all those?
A Um, No. They are for display purposes only. If you are really nice and sweet and your birthday is near, you may have a good shot at loading up The Card Cache with your own stash of gift cards in no time at all!
