Step 1 – Awareness

There are some shocking statistics out there around the usage of gift cards. It’s estimated that for the year 2009, there is approximately 5 Billion dollars of unused gift-cards. These retail profits could easily be redirected towards folks with needs. That’s where you come in.

Let’s say that you get a gift card for your birthday. You happily go shopping (as you should) and find a great pair of shoes. You use your gift card and now have a balance left of $2.30. You stick the card back in your wallet and you rock those new shoes the first chance you get. The card however, isn’t as lucky. It looses your attention and sits in you wallet. You intend to use it. Time goes by. You clean out your wallet one day and stash that card in a junk drawer. It sits in the drawer and you forget about it.

Approximately 14% of gift cards are never, EVER, redeemed. Why? Could it be that they are sitting in a drawer somewhere with nominal value but at the moment – useless?

That’s where we come in… Operation Junk Drawer.

There is a use for those cards. They do have monetary value. The card value may be low on your scale and that’s why it ended up in the drawer. And really, what does $2.30 get you, a pair of ugly socks on sale that you really don’t want, need or will use? There are people out there in need of socks. Your card in the drawer could be socks on their feet, providing warmth to their toes not to mention the warmth elicited in your own heart knowing that you have connected with the human spirit and given of yourself to help another.

Your unused card + my unused card + his/her unused card + their unused cards = lots of socks or maybe a coat or some food or…

5 Billion dollars in unused gift card credit is a lot of money to leave stashed in the junk drawer.

Step 3 Distribute

We will collect and distribute the cards to non-profit organizations such as American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity who will in turn utilize the cards for helping those in need.

We will reward you by keeping you posted on how your gift cards are being used and what affect they are having on making the world a better place.
