Hair Band Organizer

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Are you kidding me?  I made this with paper and an oatmeal can.

Pinterest is really fun and useful.  I found this idea and was able to immediately do it.

I bought an oatmeal can.  I grabbed double stick tape out of the drawer and hunted the paper from a dark closet buried deep in the corner.  (I was going to scrapbook with this paper, I guess the fact that my daughter is almost 5 means I can use this paper for the hairband can without regret…the scrapbook is not going to happen.)

But the head band organizer is happening.  Do you LOVE it?  I simply wrapped the paper around the can and stuck it on a candle base.

You have no idea how this has cleaned up that one drawer that always had stuff half shut in it.

It’s quite pretty too.

It cost $3.00 to make and took all of 5 minutes.

Just call me Martha…it made me feel good to fit a do-it-yourself project into the hectic schedule.

p.s. The oatmeal is still inside the can.  HeHe!  I suppose that if we ever need food in an emergency we will raid the can.  I thought the weight of the can was great with the oatmeal left in it.  My little girl can put her bands on and off without knocking the whole thing over this way.  I suppose you could empty the can and put hair ties and what not on the inside…I cut a circle and glued it on top.

Whatcha waiting for?  Go get an oatmeal can and get to work.

You will love it!

Hamburger Cake

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

You should make this cake.  Everyone will LOVE it.

Use 3 pound cake mix boxes.  Get some vanilla (1) and chocolate frosting (2).

Crush up some dark chocolate cookies.  2 big marshmallows and 2 m&m’s for the eyes.  Pine nuts on top for the seeds.

The tomatoes are vanilla wafers.  A bit of vanilla frosting mixed with yellow and orange food coloring ’till you get the red you want.  Zap it for a few seconds in the micro and dip the cookies.  Let them dry.

The lettuce is those green belt gummy candy thingies.

For the bun color, you are mixing chocolate frosting with (lots of) yellow food coloring ’till you get the bun color you like.

For the burger layer, frost the cake with the chocolate.  Push the crushed chocolate cookies into that layer.

The cheese or mustard look, mix up some food coloring yellow/orange to the color you like.  Heat in the micro and drizzle so it looks globby and melted.

Oh yeah, round bun on top.  Cooked it in an oven safe bowl and shaved the top to the shape I wanted.

I really like this for end of season sports parties.  I like to top this guy off with the little plastic team hats.  You know, Der Weinerschnitzel serves ice cream in them.  You can usually find one of those on Ebay.

Have fun with it and change it up…give him your own touch of personality.

Valentine’s Breakfast in 2 minutes!!!

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

This one ranks up there with Rice Krispie treats girls. Delicious and Oh So Easy.

Let’s do it.

Buy:

Pour applesauce into a bowl.  Cup or so.

Decide how many red hots to mix in. 1/4 cup seems right for my taste (I mean the kids.)  Play with it and see what you like.

Toss the red hots into the applesauce…

Microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes.  The idea here is to melt the candies.

Stir.  Stir.  Stir.

Stir until the candies have melted.  Your depth of color of applesauce will be determined by how many red hots you mix in.

Add toast.  Leave the wheat in the drawer today.  White bread goes best…opinion.

Enjoy!!!  No, it’s not hot (spice).  It’s warm and sweet just like a hug from MaMa.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
